Skin Lesions and Lumps

Dr Simon Ho provides surgical management of selected benign skin, subcutaneous lesions and some malignant skin cancers (if appropriate and not requiring significant reconstruction) as part of his general surgical practice.

Common conditions that may be managed include:

  • Sebaceous (epidermoid) cysts

  • Lipomas

  • Other small, superficial soft-tissue lesions where clinically appropriate

  • small BCC/SCC or excisional biopsy

Procedures are typically performed in hospital as minor surgical excisions, often under local anaesthetic with or without sedation, in a day-surgery setting.

Removal may be considered when a lesion is:

  • Symptomatic (pain, infection, recurrent inflammation)

  • Increasing in size

  • Causing functional impairment or distress

  • Of uncertain diagnosis and requires histological confirmation

  • Risk of progression

All excised tissue is routinely sent for histopathological examination.

An initial consultation is required to:

  • Confirm the likely diagnosis

  • Determine suitability for excision

  • Discuss alternative management options

  • Explain potential risks, including bleeding, infection, scarring, recurrence, and need for further treatment

Not all skin lesions are suitable for removal, and referral to an alternative specialist may be recommended where appropriate.
